Hugh Wilson, Hinewai Reserve 30 Minute Documentary
The Amazing Hugh Wilson, this short documentary is worth watching! Hugh is the visionary that created Hinewai Reserve at 1600ha and growing it is the largest private reserve in New Zealand, of regenerating native forest through invasive gorse!
It’s been amazing growing up next to Hugh and this is a short piece on a neighbours perspective of the legend Hugh!
Marie’s Best Scones Recipe
Such a strong aspect of the tours is hospitality Manaakitanga, it was wonderful to meet you and share some time to get to know each other, and part of that (at least on the 3 hour tour) is sharing food kai, an important New Zealand tradition, and homemade scones are the tradition in my farming family, used to feed hungry shearer’s, fencers, and bargain a better price for your stock, these days I make them for guests coming to learn about our regenerative aspirations to ensure that our land stays productive and resilient for seven generations to come after us. Takapūneke Story – Including legal witness statements
The horrific incredible catalyst for New Zealand’s formation and shaping, the first European involvement in intertribal warfare, and the link to the witness statements taken shortly after the incident. This lead to a whole chain of events in Akaroa Harbour that shaped the identity of our nation. There is no better place in New Zealand to learn about our history.
The Seventh Generation Principle
For us, and the seven generations coming after us, keeping in mind the seven generations that came before. Pretty easy, once you have that scale in mind you will be more careful with your decisions, and perhaps it will help you find what are the most important things in your life, for me it is this land and the stories that shape this land.
