Local Guided Tours

Welcome to Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū - Banks Peninsula - the food basket of Rākaihautū, so named for the abundance and beauty that met the very first settlers.
Akaroa harbour has a richer set of narratives in the nations bicultural identity than Waitangi. Including the Britomart Monument, one of the best places in New Zealand to discuss the Treaty of Waitangi.
If you want to create a high-value long lasting impact at your next conference event Akaroa then expert local storyteller Marie Haley of The Seventh Generation will ground your manuhiri (guests) in place and connect them deeply to the story of our country, New Zealand.
Add more value to your conference event Akaroa, by bringing the participants out on an informative and inspiring journey in and around Akaroa.
Marie is a seventh generation descendant of the first French settlers to Akaroa, a natural storyteller, historian and ecologist.
Marie is able to create lasting value to your team building event through Personal Learning and Development (PLD) in understanding the Treaty of Waitangi, the events that led up to it and the international context at the time.
Marie is an accredited Ministry of Education External Learning Provider specialising in educational field trips for groups of any size. With her ecological training and experience managing conservation projects, she can connect your participants of corporate events to nature in unexpected and enlivening ways.

What Guests Think

"If you like history, geography, ecology and the environment, this trip is a must!!
Best tourism experience in Canterbury!!
Marie has a depth of knowledge of the many histories of Banks Peninsula over several hundred years and provides a thoughtful korero on Ngai Tahu history, British colonial processes, the French colonists, economic forces which radically changed the landscapes of Banks Peninsula.
Marie also provides insight into the unique social history of Akaroa and is an inspiring and engaging host. Marie provides a wonderful geographic history of Banks Peninsula, the ancient volcanoes and their impact on creating a huge piece of Te Waipounamu.
We particularly enjoyed seeing the places where farmers, community groups and conservation trusts are reforesting the land, with the aim of native bush cover from 'shore to skyline'.
The landscapes and views are astounding - magnificent and beautiful.
This is a unique, memorable experience unlike any other.
Very highly recommended. "
